Main Functions of SPD – BBV Vertical Big Bale Decompactor
- Break down compressed Big Bales of peat and substrate blends
- Decompact and fibre-open the substrate
- Ensure a constant flow of loose, aerated and homogeneous substrate
- Continuously feed the production line
The result is a substrate with an ideal physical structure for sowing, tray filling and substrate block formation.
How SPD – BBV Works
- The Big Bale is loaded vertically into the processing chamber using a forklift or pallet truck.
- A horizontal milling system with shredding chain progressively processes the bale from the top downwards.
- The material is decompacted, fibre-opened and aerated before discharge.
- The prepared substrate is transferred to an intermediate discharge hopper with automatic level control, ensuring a stable and continuous feed to downstream equipment.
The entire process is fully automated and PLC-controlled, synchronised with the real-time demand of the production line.
Capacity. The SPD-BBV is designed to handle:
- Big Bales up to 6 m³
- Approximate maximum weight: 1,200 kg
Compatible materials:
- Peat
- Peat, coco and wood-based blends
- Pre-formulated substrate mixes
- Light organic substrates
Key Advantages of our Vertical Big Bale Decompactor
- True Decompaction. The SPD-BBV does more than simply cut the bale. It restores the physical structure of the substrate, improving: Porosity, Aeration, Capillarity, Overall uniformity.
- Stable and Continuous Flow. The discharge hopper equipped with minimum and maximum level sensors ensures a consistent feed without peaks, interruptions or fluctuations.
- Direct Line Integration. Designed to feed continuously: Automated sowing lines, Tray filling machines, Packaging systems, Substrate block or cube forming systems
- Vertical Design. Compared to horizontal systems, the vertical configuration requires less floor space, facilitating: Installation in existing facilities, Integration into compact production lines, Improved workplace ergonomics
Available Options. Outlet Moistening System
The SPD-BBV can be equipped with a discharge spray bar, allowing:
- Precise adjustment of substrate moisture
- Easier mixing with water or additives
- Direct preparation of the substrate for sowing or subsequent compaction processes
Safety and Operation. The system incorporates:
- Physical guards on all moving components
- Safety locking systems during Big Bale loading
- Safe operation with minimal manual intervention
Designed for continuous, industrial and safe operation.
Typical Applications. The SPD-BBV is ideally suited for:
- Horticultural nurseries
- Forest seedling producers
- Ornamental propagation centres
- Automated sowing lines
- Prepared substrate production plants
It is the ideal module for transforming compressed Big Bales into sowing-ready substrate, without loss of quality or process control.
Smart Sowing Systems – Substrate Under Control
The SPD-BBV is part of the Smart Sowing Systems ecosystem, where substrate preparation is a controlled, traceable and optimised process, designed to guarantee:
- Sowing uniformity
- Root development quality
- Production repeatability
